Synopsis: In The Haunting, Courtney, Sylvester and the JSA plot to take down a major threat. However, the arrival of someone from their past sends shock waves through the town.

The Story

Picking the story up from the last time. Courtney and the JSA are making plans to take down The Ultra Humanite but are still totally unaware that Jordan Mahkent aka Icicle actually survived his last encounter with the JSA and has reconstituted himself into human form. However, their ignorance is short-lived when they find the two dead frozen bodies of the Crocks and Jordan makes his return to the living public by trying to convince everyone that he has turned over a new leaf.

Meanwhile, a very angry Sylvester Pemberton is determined to go after Icicle on his own and is looking to have revenge.

The Acting

Neil Jackson puts in a chilling performance as Jordan Mahkent. I liked the various different scenes where he is trying to convince people that he has changed and is suggesting an alliance between himself and the JSA to take down The Ultra Humanite. We also get fun performances from Alkoya Brunson and Trae Romano as Jakeem and Mike. Of course, Mike is frightened that Jordan Mahkent is going to come after him and asks Thunderbold if he can take Mahkent’s power away from him.

Brec Bassinger is solid as ever in the role of Courtney and had a few solid scenes. The two standouts are her meeting with Cameron Mahkent (Hunter Sansone) who has just learned that his father is still alive and is obviously conflicted. And the scene where Courtney leans in to comfort a very grief-stricken  Artemis Crock (Stella Smith) who has just found the remains or lack thereof of her murdered parents.

Overall

The Haunting was an okay episode. I say okay because the pacing was a bit uneven in parts. In that, I kind of just felt that Icicle should have just hit the ground running. The scenes of grief from Artemis were dealt with really well. As was the reunion between Jordan and his family.

We have a thirteen-day break until the next episode and thankfully this has ended on a bit of a cliffhanger that will keep fans speculating. All I can say is that I think it’s going to get pretty chaotic as we see some battle lines get drawn.
