Synopsis: In The Killer, Courtney and the team regroup after a dramatic confrontation leaving battle lines clearly drawn. A terrifying discovery made by Mike and Jakeem forces Pat and Sylvester to go on high alert. Meanwhile, Paula and Larry take matters into their own hands.

The Story

After having had a confrontation with the Mahkents in last week’s episode. Courtney and the JSA are having to keep a low profile as feelings are still running high. To that end, Pat and Sylvester pay a visit to the Mahkents and try to smooth things over, but have little success. Meanwhile, they and the JSA have bigger problems as Mike and Jakeem return with news of a giant white ape that chased them out of the woods. This news gets Pat and Sylvester on high alert as they suspect it is an old adversary called The Ultra Humanite who happens to be the most dangerous villain that the original JSA ever faced down. With that news in mind, Courtney feels that the JSA, The Crocks, and Mahkents should unite in light of such an extreme threat.

Elsewhere, The crocks take matters into their own hands and wind up in trouble as their curiosity gets the better of them.

The Acting

Trae Romano and Alkoya Brunson make for a great double act as Mike and Jakeem use Thunderbolt to escape the great white ape. But no sooner as they seem to be out of trouble. They seem to find more trouble. I love the dynamic between these two characters that are so eager to be heroes that they seem to leave common sense behind. As in way, way behind. I also love the rule that they have to be very specific in what they wish for when making use of Thunderbolt who is voiced brilliantly by Seth Green.

We also get a very strong performance from Hunter Sansone as Cameron Mahkent when Courtney (Brec Bassinger) tries to apologize for withholding the truth from him. He makes his feelings abundantly clear. And who could blame him? I think most people would feel very much like they’d been manipulated given how much time Courtney had invested in him prior to dropping such a bombshell.

All that said. The best performance in this episode comes from Neil Hopkins and Joy Osmanski as we see The Crocs continue to try and redeem themselves. I really enjoyed the scene where Paula tries to teach Barbara how to use a crossbow when she is threatened by one of the Mahkents.

The Killer was a solid episode and it delivers a somewhat shocking twist at the end, which is only going to amp up the drama as the series draws to a conclusion in about three weeks time.
