Synopsis: WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS: “THE GATHERING”. VALANCE and DENGAR travel to CANTO BIGHT as a relentless assassin stalks them! T’ONGA starts to recruit a bounty hunter crew with some familiar — and fearsome — faces! Plus TASU LEECH returns! But whose side is he on?
Having barely escaped being killed by Deathstick in the last issue. Valance and Denger take a two-day journey on public transport to Canto Bight. Upon arrival Denger looks into getting his ship back so they can track down a member of the Crismon Dawn.
Elsewhere, T’onga and Losha go to a prize fight in order to recruit one of the fighters and then head out to see Zuckuss.
Paolo Villanelli continues to do some great work with the art and there are lots of great panels to appreciate in this issue. I particularly enjoyed the sequence in which T’onga and Losha watch the prizefight. The contrast in size between the two fighters is hilarious. As we get a beast of a fighter taking on a diminutive humanoid character.
I also enjoyed the opening sequence in which we see Deathstick deliver a message for the leadership of The Unbroken Clan. Villanelli does a brilliant job of capturing the atmosphere of Corellia, which is where Unbroken Clan’s safe house is.
In The Gathering we see the various factions begin to come together in their attempt to save Han Solo. I continue to enjoy the exchanges of dialogue between Denger and Valance who both have very different approaches to their work. The moment where Denger tries to talk himself into a deal with some people he owes money to was a lot of fun. But it is funnier still when Valance realizes that Denger’s gambling buddies are frightened of Crimson Dawn and uses that fear for leverage.
Overall. A really fun issue that begins to pull the threads together for the pending finale.
