Paul Wesley To Boldly Go as The Next Captain Kirk

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiers on Paramount Plus on 5 May.

News dropped yesterday that Paul Wesley will play the Iconic James Tiberius Kirk in the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The Actor who is best known for his role in Vampire Diaries will be the third actor to play the role in an official Star Trek production. The role of Kirk was originated by William Shatner, but later got recast for the 2009 Star Trek movie, which was a reboot. Wesley, however, will play a version of Kirk who predates William Shatner’s version of the character.

In the original series continuity, in which Strange New World is set in. Kirk served on the U.S.S. Farragut prior to getting promoted to Captain of the Enterprise. However, Strange New Worlds could pick Kirk up at any point of his career prior to his promotion to Captain.

“Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show,” executive producer Alex Kurtzman and showrunners/EPs Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers said in a joint statement. “Like all of us, he is a life-long Star Trek fan, and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.”
