Aerial battles are entered into on a wing and a prayer! The latest installment of the Top Gun franchise is currently in cinemas. We recently reviewed Top Gun: Maverick (2022), a very exciting film. Tom Cruise took back up into the skies, reprising one of his most iconic roles. There were also some new characters, too. And, there was a very special cameo from a true legend of the big screen . . .
Wing and a Prayer
Pete Mitchell was
put to the test,
his skills measured
against the rest
He took his jet
into the sky,
then had to watch
his best friend die
Goose’s death was
a brutal blow,
an awful way
for things to go
Then Maverick felt
that all had gone,
it seemed there was
no moving on . . .
But Maverick took
back to the sky,
teaching Goose’s
son how to fly!

Neither Top Gun (1986) or Top Gun: Maverick (2022) are sci-fi films, or fantasy. So, you may well question why they’re appearing on SciFiPulse, ad indeed May The Verse Be With You. We categorise the two movies, especially the latest one, as “Spy-fi”. But regardless, it’s a pop-culture classic now. It’s great to see this series continue, and who knows, maybe there’ll be more yet to come!
