Synopsis: In Into The Wobbly Wood, Scott decides that Simon Choksi is the best person to take over the role of Santa when they search for their missing daughters.
The Story
Having decided to retire as Santa Clause in last week’s shows. Scott and his family begin to pack their bags and prepare for life in the Chicago Suburbs. However, before he can leave. Scott has to interview the person who will be his successor and seems to be having a few issues in selecting the right candidate. That is until Simon Choksi comes along. At first, Scott isn’t impressed with Simon, but when both their daughters go missing in the Wobbly Wood where no elf will ever go. The two men bond over their children and the experience helps Scott to make up his mind.
The Acting
Tim Allen continues to be solid as Scott Calvin and has some fun moments in this episode. I loved the cute one-liners that he came up with when interviewing the Santa Candidates. But it is the scenes that both Allen and Kal Penn as Simon Choksi have with the Winter Witch aka Befana (Laura San Giacomo) that really seal it.
Overall
This was another fun episode. I loved how the writers delved into Christmas mythology and brought Befana the Christmas Witch into the story. Given that I feel that many kids here in the UK as well as in parts of the USA may not have too much knowledge about other Christmas Gift Bringers from Europe and the rest of the world. So having Scott and Simon meet Befana in the Wobbly Wood made for both a fun and educational moment.
Overall. I’m really enjoying where this series is taking things and look forward to next week’s installment. As this is a nice little advent television treat for the festive season that I feel both old and younger kids will enjoy.
