Dance of the Celestial Orb

Synopsis: In The Dance of the Celestial Orb Kate embarks on a solo mission that raises Curtain’s suspicions and endangers the team.

The Story

Picking up from where last week left off. Milligan has crashed his submarine but has somehow managed to make it to the island. Meanwhile, Kate has gone on a solo mission to try and sabotage Dr. Curtain’s server farm. Having just about having evaded capture. Kate’s actions put the team’s mission at risk and her copied key card has thrown Curtain’s suspicion on Martina Crowe.

Elsewhere, Mr. Benedict and his team make ready to pull Reynie and the team off the island and set about building an airship. Ms. Perumal gives Benedict a letter to pass on to Reynie.

Meanwhile, Reynie, Kate, and Constance manage to persuade a confused Sticky that the Whisperer isn’t as good a thing as he thinks it is.

The Acting

Emmy DeOliveira kicks things straight into action as we see Kate do her mission impossible routine and try and break into the Server Farm. DeOliveira seems to get a lot of the more physical challenges in this show. And her character to my mind is kind of a teenage girl version of MacGyver.

Mystic Inscho gets a few more tense scenes with Dr. Curtain and pulls them off pretty well. However, it is the scene that he has with Ricardo Ortiz who plays Curtain’s son S.Q. that impressed me the most. Particularly because it illustrates how uncomfortable Reynie is with lying.

Overall

Not a bad episode. It felt a little like filler given how strung out some of the scenes were. The opening scene with Kate did a great job of setting the episode up. But the scenes with Mr. Benedict and his team building the airship seemed to drag a little bit. Thankfully, not so much that it ruined my enjoyment of the episode.
