Synopsis: In The Thief, Courtney continues to secretly help Cameron, and the team notices she’s pulling away from her role as the JSA leader. Mike and Jakeem approach Cindy with a proposition.
The Story
Picking up from last week’s episode. Courtney is still going all out to help Cameron get some control over his powers and apply them to something more creative, but the time she is spending with him is making her neglect her duties as the leader of JSA. Added to this her fellow team members are beginning to notice and are a bit worried about it. However, Sylvester seems to be stepping up in Courtney’s place and tries to reassure the team that things will sort themselves out.
Meanwhile, Mike and Jakeem see some potential in Cindy when she rescues them from some Bullies. Seeing what she can do they approach her in hopes that she will join their team and help them track down the murderer. Elsewhere Yolanda who still doesn’t trust Cindy tries to find some evidence that will show Cindy to be the murderer.
The Acting
Some good performances this week from most of the cast. But I really enjoyed Meg DeLacy’s performance as Cindy. I particularly liked the scene where she turns Mike and Jakeem down when they invite her to join their team. I also enjoyed the scene she has with Courtney (Brec Bassinger) when she reveals that he tried to trigger a reaction from Cameron in order to make him use his powers.
Overall
The Thief is another episode that focuses more on the characters as opposed to moving the plot forward. However in this case it presents some interesting questions about the characters. Such as what is happening with Cindy? Is she aware of what she is doing at all times or has her father The Lizard King somehow figures out a way to manipulate her? We also have to wonder if Courtney is ever going to return to her duties as leader of the JSA or is she going to let Sylvester take over?
I guess we’ll find out the answers to some of these questions in the weeks ahead. Hopefully, we’ll learn something sooner as opposed to later. As it seems that the story is treading water at present.
