Skellig is very much a story about ‘the spreading of the wings’. The story, written by author David Almond, is hugely popular still now. It’s a fantasy tale set in the real world. For those who have read Skellig May the Verse Be with You hopes that you can see the spirit of the story in the poem! That’s the intention . . . The story has a soul of its own . . .
The Spreading of the Wings
An unknown thing is found,
which barely makes a sound . . .
There’s an utterance, meek,
barely a feeble squeak
But Michael perseveres,
so, Skellig’s future steers
Then Michael says “don’t mope”
the winged creature sees hope . . .
Michael and Mina see
Skellig dancing magically
Under their watchful eye
they help Skellig to fly
Through kindness and with love
soon Skellig soars above!

Mostly each weekly poem is from a film franchise or TV show. However, it’s crucial to remember that popular culture has many fantastic characters from books! Indeed, the majority of our favourite creations were from the pages of books first. Indeed, there’s a movie of Skellig (2009) inspired by the book! See you next week dear readers!
