Synopsis: Once again the story flashes back to the past on the planet Brendok where a bitter truth is revealed and a choice is made.

The Story

The episode begins with Master Sol talking to Mae about what happened 16 years ago when he and the Jedi visited Bendock. We get more flashbacks in which we learn why the Jedi were on Brendock. They were looking for a vergence in the force, which is a concentrated area of force energy, which naturally occurs in rare instances. When Master Indira sends Sol to scout another part of the planet he sees Osha and instantly feels a connection to her that makes him think that he has to become her teacher. Upon finding the settlement of witches and believing them to be dangerous because of their non-traditional use of the Force. Sol rushes back to Master Indira and reports on what he has seen. Indira agrees to visit the Witches and check it out, but when she gets there she picks up on the fact that Sol may be letting his emotions cloud his judgment as he may well be misunderstanding what these witches and their practices are about.

As the story progresses we learn that Master Sol’s noble intentions are rather misguided as he was acting entirely on his own assumptions instead of working with the facts. In fact Indira rightfully warns him at several key moments throughout the story.

The Acting

Jodie Turner-Smith puts in a brilliant performance throughout this episode as we get to see her as the strong leader of a coven as well as the strong and caring mother. The moment in the episode where she tells Sol that she is going to let Osha go with the Jedi is heartbreaking and further illustrates how wrong Sol’s (Lee Jung-jae) assumptions about the girls and the coven are.

Overall

This is perhaps the best episode of the show so far. I loved how well the writer illustrates how the noblest of intentions alone are not enough when you are acting without verifiable facts. I look forward to seeing how this gets resolved in next week’s season finale.
