Synopsis: In ‘From The Desert Comes A Stranger’. Cobb Vanth sees off some Pyke’s from Mos Pelgo. Mysteries are explored and Boba Fett learns new information.

The Story

Picking up from last week. Din Djarin has flown out in his new fighter to go and see Grogu but is made to wait for a while by R2D2. Eventually, he meets with Ahsoka Tano who discourages him from seeing Grogu as it will make it harder for the little guy to give up his attachment to him. Reluctantly Din Djarin leaves his gift for Grogu with Ahsoka who passes it on to Luke who has been teaching Grogu. Luke says that Grogu is learning fast, but it feels more like he is remembering. He adds that he senses that Grogu is somewhat reluctant to embrace being a Jedi.

Din Djarin returns to Moss Espa in time for a war council where Fennec Shand and Boba Fett are formulating their plans. However, they are still short on ground troopers. Din Djarin says he can help them with that and pays Cobb Vanth a visit only to find that Mos Pelgos has been renamed to Free Town. Cobb having seen off some Pyke earlier in the episode is reluctant to join the fight. However, he eventually says that he’ll see what he can do.

After Cobb’s meeting with Din Djarin. A stranger pays them a visit and announces himself as Cad Bane. The stranger proceeds to give Cobb Vanth and his people an ultimatum. They do nothing and let the spice trade freely or they join with Boba Fett and die.

Elsewhere, Luke Skywalker gives his young padwan an impossible choice.

The Acting

Once again Pedro Pascal kicks butt as Din Djarin and has some fun scenes. Indeed the scene he shares with Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano does a brilliant job of illustrating how close Din Djarin’s bond is with Grogu. It’s almost heartbreaking to watch the moment when The Mandalorian reluctantly walks away. Likewise, the scenes between Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Grogu are equally heartbreaking. Especially the moment where we see Grogu reaching for Din Djarin’s ship as it flies away.

Once again we get very little from Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen this week. However, the writers more than makeup for this by including a return for Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) and the introduction of Cad Bane who has only been seen on the animated shows until this point.

Overall

Much like last week’s episode ‘From The Desert Comes A Stranger’ felt more like a season three episode of The Mandalorian given that we got very little in the way of Boba Fett. However, it was a really entertaining episode that demonstrates once again just how big the Star Wars universe is. Especially when it comes to the seedier side of things. The introduction of Cad Bane and the showdown between him and Cobb Vanth was brilliantly done. Additionally, I think we’ll see more of Bane given that he is working for the Pykes.

All that said. I do hope we get to see a little more of Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in next week’s show. Sure I love seeing Din Djarin and Grogu again. But it feels a little strange having them be the dominant elements in a show that is supposed to be about Boba Fett.
