Synopsis: In Book Club Tally reunites with her mother and finds a reason to keep fighting. Abigail and Adil return to Fort Salem to find their home has changed.
The Story
Having helped the Unit in last week’s episode Thelma Bearkiller becomes a target for President Silver who plans to order the military to invade the Cession in hopes of playing off the Spree witches off against the Cession witches. Meanwhile, Abigail and Adil head to Fort Salem with Alder to return her to the Mycelium so she can regain her strength.
Having lost a little of her faith in the fight. Tally gets renewed inspiration when she returns home to her mother to find that she is standing up to The Camarilla units that are based near her home. Tally learns that all the witches in her hometown have to wear a collar that prevents them from using their powers. However, Tally’s mother and the Book Club have made their own fake collars. Furthermore, they have also been running sabotage missions against the camarilla and take Tally on one of them.
Elsewhere, Scylla has taken Edwin home where they try to reach out to Raelle who is still in the Mycelium with her mother Willa. However, it seems that Willa is taking things a little too far in her mission to protect her daughter.
The Acting
Diana Pavlovská puts in a fantastic performance as Willa and has some really strong scenes. The moment where Edwin (Hrothgar Mathews) is able to see his wife, who he believed to be dead was really nicely handled. She also has a really good scene with Adler (Lyne Renée) in which they both take out a Camarilla drilling site that has been trying to pump poison into the Mycelium.
We also get another nice performance from Olivia Lucas as Thelma Bearkiller who at the end of the episode gives both Abigail and Anacostia Quartermain a choice of going their own way or joining up with her militia to fight Silvers soldiers.
Overall
Book Club was another great episode, which built on the storyline from previous episodes. I really enjoyed the scenes between Edwin and Scylla who seem to have formed a bond due to their relationship with Raelle. Likewise, I am also enjoying the mysterious storyline surrounding Adler and Willa’s mission as they act as avatars for the Mycelium. The scene in which we see them take down one of the last drilling sites was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed The Book clubs raid on the government building to destroy the collars.
Overall. A really fun and engaging episode that is looking to set up some pretty big storylines as we get into the second half of the season.
