Synopsis: The newly “undead” members of the Doom Patrol are inspired to work on themselves. Later, the team is rocked by the arrival of a mysterious woman on a time machine – and a former foe.

The Story

Having gotten back from their trip to the almost afterlife. The gang is recovering but is shocked to learn that they have an uninvited house guest. The woman, who is known as Madame Rouge has used time travel and is looking for Niles Caulder. However, she has no memory of who she is. Making matters worse is the fact that the Doom Patrol is undergoing a transformation into Zombies. Lucky for them that Willoughby Kipling is on hand. But he has only come seeking their help to find the decapitated head of Niles Caulder, which has been stolen from him.

The Acting

All the principal actors do a fantastic job of being zombies for a good chunk of the episode. I was particularly impressed with Matt Bomer who had a few somewhat difficult undead special moves to pull off. Added to that we get a great performance from Mark Sheppard who is as cantankerous as ever as always as Willoughby who does not especially think too highly of the Doom Patrol. And we also get a great performance from Michelle Gomez as Madame Rouge. The journey she goes on to find her identity is brilliantly performed.

Overall

Overall Undead Patrol has a lot of fun with the whole Zombie Concept and we get some hilarious exchanges as the gang speaks zombie to each other. I particularly enjoyed Victor’s line about him not swearing so much when he is not a zombie. Added to that is the drama of Madame Rouge trying to figure out who she is. Her scene with the head of Niles Caulder when he pretty much tells her that she and he do not get on was brilliantly done.

Overall. A solid episode, but one that didn’t really give us too much in terms of what this year’s story arc will entail.
