Three-time Golden Globe nominee Sonia Braga has joined the cast of Netflix’s third Marvel series ‘Luke Cage’.
Braga who is best known numerous films and television shows is to play the role of Soledad Temple, mother of Daredevil favourite Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson).
To date Claire Temple has featured in both ‘Daredevil’ and the recently released ‘Jessica Jones’ and has become a firm favorite with the fans.
Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb announced Braga’s casting: “A character as strong as Claire needs an equally powerful mother, and with Sonia we found the perfect actress to deliver the stellar performance we needed.
“In Marvel’s Luke Cage, fans will now get a chance to see where Claire got the fire we love her for.”
“Sônia Braga? Rosario Dawson? ‘Nuff said. I’m tuning in,” Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker added.
“When it came to finding someone who was both formidable yet possessed a light touch, Sônia was the perfect choice and has been a Godsend.”
‘Luke Cage’ will pick things up during the fall out from where events left off in ‘Jessica Jones’. The series will see Luke Cage use his abilities in order to crack down on crime in Harlem.
These efforts will bring Luke into contact with conflict with corrupt politician Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard), gang leader Shades (Theo Rossi) and crooked club owner Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali).
Netflix also plan to introduce Simone Missick as Misty Knight, a police detective beloved by fans of Marvel Comics.
