In this episode of SciFiPulse Now, Ian Cullen and Marx Pyle tackle a question that has followed Babylon 5 for years: could J. Michael Straczynski successfully bring the series back for a modern audience?
We discuss whether the best approach would be a complete reboot, retelling the story with a new cast, or a continuation set 20 or 30 years after the original series. But rebooting Babylon 5 presents a particularly difficult challenge: how do you replace actors who became inseparable from their characters?
For Ian, the biggest example is Andreas Katsulas as G’Kar. Katsulas didn’t simply play the role; he embodied G’Kar so completely that finding another actor of similar calibre who could make the character their own would be an enormous task.
Could JMS capture lightning in a bottle twice, or should a new Babylon 5 boldly move the story forward?
