There really are some big 2022 film releases. A fortnight ago, BBC Culture reported on 22 films to watch in 2022. ScifiPulse has selected our own “big five” from that list. The five films we’ve gone with are all of course science fiction/fantasy/comic world related . . .

The Batman (March)

A Batman movie is always going to be a big deal. So, it’s no surprise at all that it’s made our big 2022 film releases list. This is also the first on the list to be released too. From what we can make out from The Batman (2022) trailer, we’re in for a treat. Whilst the film was being made, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, we released a fun feature. It was about Batman going Out Without Robin . . .

Top Gun: Maverick (May)

Okay, cue the shouts of this isn’t science fiction/fantasy/comic world related. Technically, that’s true. But it’s just too big to not include! Also, we’ll probably see some borderline impossible stuff being pulled off, too! It looks to be incredible, and is much anticipated, too.

Lightyear (June)

Way back when, Toy Story was a huge hit. The film spawned hugely successful sequels, and is pop-culture gold, now. The big news about Lightyear, is that it will be the MCU’s Chris Evans who voices the character, and not Tim Allen. The film will likely still do well.

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse  РPart One (October)

This is a huge deal, and simply had to make it onto the big 2022 film releases list. What’s interesting is that this is “part one”. So, we’re probably going to get a very in-depth story. It will be great to see the return of Miles Morales onscreen. There will be a lot of expectation to deliver, and build on the huge success of Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse (2018). We think they’ll manage it, though.

Avatar 2 (December)

If there’s expectation on the Into The Spiderverse to do well, then it’s nothing compared to the pressure of Avatar 2. Avatar (2009) is the single most financially successful movie ever. Whether that makes it any good is down to taste . . . But the thirteen year gap should at least mean even more incredible visuals. That was what made the film so popular, first time around. It will be good to finally see it . . .

There you are, our five big 2022 film releases. Notably, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) isn’t in our top five, and is on the list quoted from. However, MCU projects will get their own feature, and that’s the reason why. Don’t worry, we can’t wait for it, either . . .
