Scifipulse recently caught up with Corina Boettger. They are an actor who has starred in The Mick and My Name Is Earl. Additionally, Corina is a voice actor who has provided voices for Sailor Moon, One Punch Man and Trolls: The Beat Goes On. Currently living in Los Angeles Corina is autistic, non-binary and has Crohn’s disease. In this interview they talk about the difference between voice acting and acting on stage and what performers inspire them.

SFP: What made you want to be an actor?

Corina Boettger:  I was obsessed with Jim Carrey cause my parents let me watch the Mask when I was 5 years old and I told my parents I wanted to BE Jim Carrey and they said I couldn’t but that I could be an actor like Jim Carrey and I said “I guess that’s close enough” lol.

SFP: How does acting in films or on TV differ from voice acting?

Corina Boettger:  It’s harder in voice acting cause you only have your voice to convey everything that you have to versus in TV and in Theatre you also have your body and face to help convey the message.

SFP: What would you say to help someone who is struggling to accept their disability?

Corina Boettger: Just because you need accommodations doesn’t make you less than. Accommodations are SO helpful.

SFP: Do you think that animation is more accepted by Western audiences as a way of telling stories than it was 20 years ago?

Corina Boettger: We had tons of cartoons 20 years ago so I think it’s about the same but I was also really young 20 years ago lol.

SFP: I see from your Anime News Network page that your favourite animes are Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho and The Future Diary. What is it about these shows that drew you to them?

Corina Boettger: Sailor Moon was the first anime that I ever watched and I love the story of an imperfect hero like Usagi still trying her hardest to succeed for her friends. Yu Yu Hakusho had AMAZING fight scenes, and Future Diary is such a great dark comedy.

SFP: What for you are the top 5 games of all time and why?

Corina Boettger: Mega Man X, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Zelda Wind Waker, Harvest Moon 64, 007 64 cause they’re all amazing.

SFP: What performers are you inspired by?

Corina Boettger: Jim Carrey, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton, Donald Glover, and Amy Poehler.

SFP: And finally, who would win a rap battle between Vash the Stampede from Trigun and Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop?

Corina Boettger:  Spike would win.

Scifipulse would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Corina Boettger for so graciously taking the time to answer our questions.
