Former ‘Batman’ star Michael Keaton is to both star in and produce a movie adaptation of the popular ‘Imagine Agents’ comic from Boom Studios.
The actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in ‘Birdman’ in which he played an actor trying to escape his comic book hero past, is attached to star and produce Imagine Agents, an adaptation of a Boom! comic set up at Fox.
Michael Sugar of ‘Anonymous Content’ and Ross Richie and Stephen Christy from Boom! will executive produce alongside Keaton.
Fox recently closed the rights deal and is now out to writers to adapt the material.
Created by writer Brian Joines and artist Bachan, the story tackles the idea that the imaginary friends of children are actually very real and centers on an organization titled I.M.A.G.I.N.E., which handles things when these figments get out of control.
The comic tells of a jaded 20-year veteran agent who must mentor a young archivist, with a routine day becoming something much larger. The first issue came out way back in December of 2013.
dam Yoelin and Ashley Zalta will co-produce.
The move follows’ BOOM!’s ‘Lumberjanes,’ a hit from its Boom Box imprint, also being set up at Fox with Will Widger (The Munchkin) writing.
