This week ‘the bare bones celebrates the wonderful character of Leonard McCoy. The late DeForest Kelley “will always be “Bones”. Though, in recent years Karl Urban did do a wonderful job of depicting him. The grumpy doctor is definitely a SciFiPulse favourite, and worthy of his own poem. So, that’s exactly what we have here for you all . . .
The Bare Bones
Oh, Spock you green blooded goblin,
Bones would say to his Vulcan friend
He’d really get under his skin
and drove the doctor round the bend
Spock’s pointy ears pointed out,
the butt of many jibes from Bones
But never once did Spock anger:
logic decrees its sticks and stones
He’d also question Captain Kirk
if certain things did not sit well
At times Bones would disregard rank,
pulling no punches, giving hell
Leonard McCoy put to the test:
Bones’ heart, Bones’ soul, the very best

“Bones” was always a crucial part of the triumvirate that comprised Kirk, Spock and Bones. His role was to act as the “humanity”, as Captain Kirk was overtly masculine. He did an incredible job.
