LOS ANGELES – After filming her first feature film before she turned 40, filmmaker, Leah Welch is now focused on her art-house horror project, Good Girl. The short follows the birthday break up of Sadie, whose despair leads her to invite a stray cat into her apartment. Things go south quickly when Sadie runs out of treat treats to feed it.

Good Girl’s IMDB profile can be found here.

The unique aspect of this horror short is that it is an entirely female cast and crew production. A lot of the same filmmakers who were on board for Welch’s feature film, In the Light of the Moon, have returned to play in the same horror sandbox. Learn more about In the Light of the Moon here.

Welch is a former investigative journalist turned screenwriter. After honing her writing skills at the Innocence Institute where she helped exonerate wrongfully convicted individuals and helped exonerate a man from a life sentence, Welch moved to Los Angeles to pursue screenwriting in 2013. She quickly found her way in the documentary world, writing an award-winning script, Price of Honor, that helped get a man on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted List.

The cast of Good Girl is lined with Sofia Toufa whom readers may recognize not only from other films and TV series but also from her time on stage with Deadmau5. The Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Caroline Shaw will also be on board, with extra music provided by Carol Anne Cat. Long-time collaborator and actress, Hailee Lipscomb has returned for another round of psychological fun with Welch. The female film crew is comprised of the talented director of photography, Adriana Serrato, and her stellar gaffer, Ali Pleasant; new to the field DIT Amy Korngiebel; seasoned film editor and USC alum Anjoum Agrama; set decorator Christiane Franklin; SPFX provided by the veteran filmmaker Roxanne Pike; impeccable script supervisor Alyssa Lana; Jane-of-all-trades filmmaker and AD April Campion; new to the playground of filmmaking and PA work Jillian Barton; and first time collaborator and producer Genah Redding.

Welch just finished applying her serial killer thesis material and interviews of retired, Oregon homicide detectives into a script, The Killing Floor, and is looking to get it off of the ground. She lives and works in Los Angeles and is seeking representation.
