In Review: The Boys (S3 – EP4) Glorious Five Year Plan

Butcher and the Boys head to Russia.

Synopsis: In Glorious Five Year Plan Butcher and the Boys head to Russia. While Homelander plots his next move.

The Story

As seen last week. Hughie has left Vought and rejoined Butcher. Finally back together again. Butcher, Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko and Mothers Milk head to Russia in order to find the secret weapon that supposedly killed Soldier Boy. But before they can go after the weapon, which is kept in a top-secret lab. They have to murder a Russian Mob Boss, which is a job that Butcher gives to Kimiko who is reluctant.

Meanwhile, back at Vought. Homelander has pretty much taken over and is pretty much aware that Starlight is plotting with other members of the seven to bring him down.

Back in Russia. The Boys get a somewhat unpleasant surprise as Kimiko is fatally wounded after their attempt to find the supe killers weapon housed in the lab goes wrong.

The Acting

Karen Fukuhara gets quite a lot to do in this episode as Kimiko and gets one of the more amusing takedown scenes in the episode when she murders the Russian Mobster with one of his superhero-branded dildos. As always her scenes with Frenchie (Tomer Capone) highlight her characters’ need for peace of mind and stability. As Kimiko is wanting a chance at a new life, but without the violence.

We also get some strong scenes from Antony Starr and Erin Moriarty as we see Homelander put Starlight back in her lane.

Overall

Glorious Five Year Plan is another strong episode as the madness and mayhem of this world escalate further. The ongoing narrative of not trusting the mainstream media continues to mirror the feelings of many in today’s world. But it’s the plot twist regarding the fate of Soldier Boy that gets executed really well here. Especially given that viewers most likely saw it coming. As to the fate of Kimko. We’ll have to wait until next week to find that out.
