Synopsis: In Break the Cycle, Lois makes increasingly bold moves as she tries to stop Luthor. Jonathan struggles to balance his personal life and responsibilities, while Clark learns an unsettling truth.
The Story
Following up on events from last week. The news is out that Superman lives and it’s only a matter of time before Lex Luthor sends Doomsday after him again. In an attempt to reach out to Lex’s better nature, Superman aka Clark attempts to talk with him. When that olive branch fails Lois finds Lex’s daughter Elizabeth and tries to bring them back together, but seeing that her father is never going to change Elizabeth leaves. In a last-ditch attempt to protect her family, Lois reaches out to Doomsday.
Elsewhere, Jonathan who is still coming to terms with his new powers struggles with keeping it a secret when his girlfriend comes to town. Things do not go well. At least not initially.
The Acting
Elizabeth Henstridge makes a guest appearance playing Lex’s pregnant daughter and does a decent job. Elizabeth Tulloch continues to do an awesome job of portraying Lois’s trauma combined with her drive for justice. The scenes between her and Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor are fraught with tension.
Michael Bishop also puts in a great performance as we see Jonathan struggle with balancing his responsibilities and superpowers and balancing them with a personal life.
Overall
Another solid episode that continues the ongoing feud between Luthor and Superman and Lois. I really liked the flashback sequences that showed us the start of the breakdown in communications between Lex and his daughter. Hopefully, we’ll see a few more of these flashbacks to show us exactly how Lois and Superman took Lex down. As am sure that would make for an interesting bit of link-up with why Lex is so fervent in his quest to hurt Lois and Superman.
