Synopsis: In Spoils of War & Ruins of War. The Bad Batch heads out to the planet Serenno to steal a War Chest for their employer Cid.
The Story
These opening two episodes see Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker, and Omega being sent to the planet Serenno in order to steal an Imperial War Chest from the occupying imperial forces. However, things do not go to plan when the group gets split up. Omega, Echo, and Tech manage to escape in a cargo container containing the War Chest while Hunter and Wrecker try and navigate their way back to their friends while being pursued by a very determined Captain Wilko and his Stormtroopers. Thankfully help is at hand for Omega, Echo, and Tech from an old man who has been surviving despite the imperial takeover of his planet. But any hopes of the Bad Batch being able to stay off Imperial radars get well and truly dashed.
Voice Acting
Dee Bradley Baker continues to be the source of many voices for this series as he continues to voice every member of the Bad Batch as well as pretty much most of the imperial Stormtroopers. This actor’s capacity for coming up with so many different voices and characteristics for these characters never ceases to amaze. Michelle Ang continues to do a great job of voicing Omega who has a slightly new look this year. Rhea Perlman has a brief but fun scene at the beginning of the story where she pitches the idea of stealing The War Chest to Hunter and the gang. I’d really like to see Cid get used a little more in these stories.
Overall
Spoils of War & Ruins of War does a solid job of building on much of the story and mythology that was built during the show’s first season. We’ve seen a little growth for the various characters as Hunter takes his role as Omega’s Guardian quite seriously. Added to this, Omega is not blind to the sacrifices that her four companions have made in order to look after her. These opening two episodes gives us lots of action, but also allow plenty of time for character development as well. I look forward to seeing how this second series progresses in the weeks ahead. As it continues to be my favorite animated show from the Star Wars Universe.
