Synopsis: In Bad Romance, Trust no one on a treasure hunt. Jess begins to wonder if this is true as she suspects someone close to her might’ve leaked an important clue to Billie, but she doesn’t want to believe it.
Having been told by Riley Poole that there is a spy in her group in last week’s show. Jess and Tasha struggle to figure out who the mole is. Thankfully it soon becomes apparent that Billie had planted a bug in Oren’s shoes, which is how she has been able to listen in on some of Jess’s conversations regarding their treasure hunt. Furthermore, Billie now knows about Jess’s parents, which has really changed things.
Having figured out that Oren’s trainers were the mole. Jess and Liam put together a plan to steal a rare book from the Governor’s house. In order to do this the gang has to attend a charity fundraiser for the Governor’s political campaign.
Back at the FBI Field Office Agent Ross has got confirmation that Agent Saduski was murdered, but is troubled by the potential suspects for the murder.
Lisette Olivera and Zuri Reed put in a strong performance as we see Jess and Tasha struggle to figure out who the mole is in their group. Reed has some fun scenes with Oren (Antonio Cipriano) later in the episode when the gang goes to the charity bash. Meanwhile, Olivera has a great dance scene with Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues) which serves as a distraction for Liam to steal the book that they are after. Even though that wasn’t the intended endgame.
Catherine Zeta-Jones continues to impress with her performance as Billie and I have to wonder what Billie’s true motives actually are. Especially given the fact that she comes to Jess’s aid toward the end of the episode.
Bad Romance has its moments in terms of plot developments but does seem to get a little bogged down with the various characters’ love lives, which kind of gets in the way of moving the plot along. The dance routine was fun as was the final chase scene where Jess is running away from security and the police.
Overall. Not a bad episode, but not that great either.
