Synopsis: In Dreams and Madness, Hera must answer to the New Republic while a reunion takes place far, far away.
The Story
Hera goes before the Senate of the New Republic and is made to answer for disobeying their orders. Senator Xiono is particularly keen to have Hera thrown out of the service and doesn’t take the threat of Thrawn seriously. Thankfully C3PO comes to Hera’s rescue claiming that he has been sent by the new Military Governor Leia Organa. Elsewhere, Ahsoka arrives at the planet and is greeted by some of the Thrawn’s troops who open fire on the space whales that Hera has used to travel with. On the planet’s surface, Thrawn is doing everything he can to take time away from Ahsoka. Elsewhere Sabine and Ezra find themselves under attack from Shin Hati and a group of Stormtroopers. Thankfully, Ahsoka is able to come in and help them at the last minute. Observing from his tactical station. Thrawn comments that watching Ahsoka and the two Jedi fight was like watching the Jedi from the old Republic before the time of the Empire.
The Acting
Anthony Daniels makes a surprise appearance as C3PO during the pre-credits sequence and helps resolve matters between Hera and the arrogant Senator Xiono who is played brilliantly by Nelson Lee. The back and forth between Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Hera and Xiono who seems to hold some kind of personal grudge.
We also got some fun scenes between Sabina, Ezra, and Ahsoka that looked very easy for the actors to play. You’d think that Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Eman Esfandi had been working together for years given how well their chemistry played out on screen.
Overall
Dreams and Madness delivers on most fronts. We got some great lightsaber action as well as some brilliant space battles. The scene where Ahsoka is being chased down by Thrawn’s ships was thrilling and great fun to watch. The pre-credits sequence was also fun to watch and adds a bit of foreshadowing that will hopefully get paid off in next weeks season finale.
