Synopsis: In Lagrange Point  Moll and the Breen capture a mysterious structure that contains the Progenitors’ power, Captain Burnham must lead a covert mission to retrieve it before the Breen figure out how to use it.

The Story

Having fixed the USS Discovery Captain Burnham and her crew managed to get to the part of Space where they’ll find the artifact that contains the Progenitor’s power. Unfortunately, Mol and the Breen Crew are a step ahead and manage take the Artifact on board their ship, which is much bigger than Discovery. When Mol and her Breen Scientist begin to investigate the artifact, they lose one of their scientists. It turns out that the artifact is some sort of portal and the technology the Progenitors used to create all races throughout the universe is most likely where the Portal leads too.

Having lost the race to retrieve the artifact. Captain Burnham, Book, Adira, and Lt Bryce go on a covert mission disguised as Breen to steal the artifact.

Meanwhile back at Starfleet Headquarters Saru and a small group of Federation delegates discuss how they might best help Captain Burnham and prevent any potential hostilities between Starfleet and a Fleet of Breen Ships that is on course to intercept Discovery.

The Acting

Sonequa Martin-Green and David Ajala get to engage in a bit of lighthearted banter as Captain Burnham and Book rekindle their relationship while also looking to pull off a clever little heist by stealing the artifact right from the Breen Engineering deck. This will be quite the operation given how big the artifact is.

Doug Jones puts in a solid performance as Saru who only has a few small scenes but does a hell of a lot with them. The scene between Saru and his future wife, when he volunteers for a mission to talk with the Breen, is brilliantly played out.

Overall

Lagrange Point is a fairly decent episode and does a pretty good job of setting things up for next week’s finale. We end on a cliffhanger that will get resolved next week, but it didn’t feel like there was any urgency. Also, I saw the Cliffhanger coming a mile off as it was pretty obvious what Burnham would wind up having to do in order to fulfill the mission. There are still a few questions that need answering. But I’m fairly confident that most things will resolve in next week’s finale.
