Synopsis: In ‘The Judgement of the Perilous Captive’. Nancy finally has Everett exactly where she wants him. Meanwhile, Nick receives upsetting news from one of his tenants, Jake Cazine, about the youth center he wants to open.
The Story
Having found Celia’s body in last week’s show. Nancy has abducted Everet Hudson and is working with Gil Bobbsey to try and extract a confession from him. But, as things develop it becomes apparent that they are trying to get Everet to confess to the wrong murder.
Elsewhere, Carson spots something unusual with a photo he took of Nancy and goes to George and Bess for help. They soon learn that Nancy has been playing host to a wraith spirit that has been hitching a ride with her.
The Acting
Andrew Airlie puts in a solid performance as Everett Hudson who is brilliantly manipulative throughout the episode. Kennedy McMann does a good job of portraying Nancy as the good cop while Praneet Akilla’s portrayal of Gil Bobbsey proves to be a good bad cop. The late addition of Riley Smith as Ryan Hudson brings the interrogation into more interesting territory. As Ryan and Nancy formulate a plan to nail Everett for a crime that he actually did commit.
Overall
‘The Judgement of the Perilous Captive’ was a pretty compelling episode as we see Nancy and Gil struggle to extract the information that they want from Everett. We also get a pretty good B-plot with Carson, George and Bess trying to figure out how to get the wraith off of Nancy. It is always fun when this series embraces some of the more supernatural elements and we get some of that here as Nancy’s wraith turns out to be the one that they came into contact with when they first met Gil Bobbsey.
With just one episode left. I have to wonder if this entity that is latched on to Nancy will hang in there until the start of season 3. Or will the Drew Crew be somehow able to free Nancy of it in next weeks finale. Might we even see a return for Tom Swift who could perhaps help with some innovative technology. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
