Synopsis: With Hippolyta at the helm, Leti, Tic, and Montrose travel to 1921 Tulsa in an effort to save Dee.

The Story

Picking the action up from last week. Dee has succumbed to the curse, which Police Captain Lancaster put on her and she is near death. In order to try and undo to spell Ruth goes to Christine for help, but all Christine can do is wind the clock back on the curse, which will give Atticus, Leti, Montrose, and Hippolyta just 24 hours to find the book of names.

The problem is. The book of names was destroyed in the fires of 1921, a period of time that holds some very traumatic memories for Montrose.

So with Hippolyta’s timely help. They all head to the observatory to repair and reactivate the time and dimensions machine. So Atticus, Montrose, and Lettie head back to Tulsa of 1921 and finds that they arrive shortly before the fires from the race riot.

Montrose has other ideas, which means that Atticus has to stop Montrose from trying to change the past, which leaves Lettie to go after the book.

The Acting

Michael Kenneth Williams puts in an incredible performance this week as some of Montrose’s backstory gets explored. Additionally, Jonathan Majors is as solid as Atticus. The scenes where Montrose talks Atticus through what happened to him and his friend are really powerful. Especially given that it allows Atticus insight into why things turned out as they did.

This was a powerful episode in many ways, but it was also a very effects-heavy one. Especially towards the end. The image of Lettie walking through fire holding the book of names was absolutely amazing. Also really good was the visuals of Hippolyta using herself as the motherboard to allow the time machine to work.

Overall. This was a really strong episode, which has put a lot of stuff in play for next week’s season finale. Questions need to be answered. Such as will Ruth be true to the deal that she has made with Christine to bring her Atticus? Also with the Book of names now being in play. Just how many other magic users will come out of the woodwork to try and claim it?

I can’t wait to find out.
