Sacrifice

Synopsis: In ‘Sacrifice’. With time running out, Nicky and Henry work to translate a cryptic map that could lead them to the Forge. Meanwhile, Althea and the family prepare for Po Po’s arrival.

The Story

Picking up from where last week left off. Nicky and Henry are still no closer to finding the forge as the cryptic map proves rather difficult to figure out. Meanwhile, Zhilan has figured out the Forge’s location but must cut ties with Kerwin before she leaves for China.

Things begin to look up for Nicky with the arrival of her Po Po (Grandmother) who she learns was also a Guardian of the sword, but ran away from the responsibility to raise a family. As Nicky confronts Po Po with her findings she learns the truth behind her family’s connection to the Sword and the location of the forge. This revelation forces Nicky to make the difficult decision to leave her family and head to China in hopes of getting there before Zhillan.

The Acting

We get some excellent performances in this episode as the Shen family prepares for a visit from Po Po. Fiona Fu has the honor of playing Po Po and pulls it off brilliantly as she immediately puts every member of the family in their place. The scene where Po Po is confronted by Nicky (Olivia Liang) is brilliantly played out. Also, the scene that immediately follows where Nicky, her mother(Kheng Hua Tan), and Po Po hash it all out was awesome as all three women brought their best selves to the task.

Overall

‘Sacrifice’ does a great job of setting things up for next week’s finale with the final scene seeing Nicky and Zhilan facing each other on the ground of the Shaolin temple where she trained. It pretty much looks like some sort of conversation is going to happen. However, that might change.

Overall. A solid episode with a nice balanced mix of comedy and drama.
