The Story
Having landed on Ignus in last week’s episode. Hari, Gaal and Salvor have met with Tellem and her people and have been welcomed to stay with them. However, Tellem has an agenda of her own and sets about sowing seeds of distrust between Gaal and Hari by telling Gaal that she is more talented than her Mentor. In short. Tellum is looking to prevent the start of a second Foundation and is using Gaal as her pawn in a very dangerous game.
Brother Constant and Polly land on Trantor and are given temporary visas. But it appears that their stay on the Empire’s homeworld is likely to be longer than planned. Meanwhile, Day and Queen Sareth announce their plans to marry and Sareth makes a vow to the people of Trantor.
Elsewhere, Hobar Mallow reaches his destination and finds himself on a massive ship that appears to be occupied by Spacers.
Having fooled Gaal and Salvor into thinking that Hari and left Ignus. Tellum has set about slowly executing Hari by slowly drowning him. While he is slowly drowned Hari has some Flashbacks to the early days of his University Days and his discovery of Psychohistory and how his wife Yanna Seldon helped him develop the Prime Radiant.
The Acting
Rachel House puts in a brilliant performance as Tellum Bond who is desperate because she knows that her time is limited. The scenes in which she is trying to recruit Gaal (Lou Llobell) to lead the Mentalics. Jared Harris also has some great scenes as we get to see a little more about Hari Seldon’s past.
Overall
Why the Gods Made Wine does a pretty good job of pushing the narrative forwards as we see Hari Seldon try to get the second Foundation up and running. While Day looks to abandon the old ways of the Empire by abandoning the practice of cloning his successor. Overall, it looks like this could be building up to some interesting conflicts as the second season passes the midway point.
