In Review: Doom Patrol (S3 – EP5) Dada Patrol

Madame Rouge enlists the Doom Patrol’s help after learning about her unsettling past.

Synopsis: In Dada Patrol. Madame Rouge enlists the Doom Patrol’s help after learning about her unsettling past. While the rest of the team works to infiltrate the target, Rita stays behind and finds a surprising connection with their mysterious friend.

The Story

Madam Rouge asks the Doom Patrol for help to unravel her unsettling past. So, while Robot Man, Negative Man, Cyborg and Crazy Jane attempt to infiltrate the Sisterhood of Dada. Madam Rouge and Rita Far get rather drunk on dirty martinis while fixing the time machine.

While Rita and Madame Rouge bond. The rest of the gang gets caught up in weird hallucinations where they are being asked a series of probing questions. We can only assume that the gang is being asked these questions by the Sisterhood. Things get quite trippy. Especially for Crazy Jane who along with one of her multiple personalities gets into a deep talk with Shelley Byron who is also known as The Fog. Crazy Jane’s encounter illustrates just how much of a threat the Sisterhood of Dada is. Especially given how easy it seemed to be for them to mess with the minds of each member of the Doom Patrol. Granted Robot Man was off his face already given that he has taken about three months’ worth of medicine for his Parkinsons.

The Acting

Wynn Everett gives us a charismatic performance as the mysterious Shelley Bryon who is practically seducing Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) with her mind games. We also get great performances from April Bowlby and Michelle Gomez as Rita Far and Madame Rouge. The scenes of them getting drunk while fixing the time machine are light relief.

This is yet another mind-bending episode that will have you wondering what the hell is going to happen next. The continued thread of Crazy Jane having to negotiate with her many personalities via the underground gets a lot of action in this episode. As Hammerhead and the others come to her aid.
