Synopsis: In Amends Patrol. As the Brotherhood of Evil closes in, the Doom Patrol tries to set aside past issues in hopes of becoming a true superhero team – or risk being taken out for good.
Picking up from where last week left off. Victor, Larry, Jane, and Rita have crashed while making their way to Florida to stop the brotherhood of evil. Meanwhile, Madame Rouge and the brain of Cliff Steele have been left to die on a hospital gurney. Luckily Rouge has a plan, which involves putting Cliff’s brain into the giant robot that The Brain had built himself. Cliff proceeds to use the suit to go on a tour of making amends to all who he wronged. Likewise, Madame Rouge is beginning to wake up to the fact that she has a lot to make up for too.
While Larry and Victor sort out their issues Rita heads off to confront Madame Rouge but happens to bump into The Brain who has stolen and broken Cliff Steele’s robot body. Elsewhere, Jane makes a deal with Dr. Harrison in exchange for her help in helping all her other personalities reunite with Kay in the underground.
April Bowlby puts in a stunning performance this week as she pretty much becomes the team leader. The confrontation that Rita has with Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez) toward the end is well worth the wait. But seeing Rita become a 50FT woman in order to stop Cliff and his new Robot body from wrecking their town was amazing. Likewise, we also get a brilliantly comedic performance from Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele.
The season three finale did a great job of wrapping up all the storylines. I loved the payoff at the end where Rita says that they should become heroes and do things on their own terms and not let outsiders choose their labels, but instead let their own actions define them. I also loved the comedic timing of Cliff’s wanting to make amends. And the visual of Rita Far as a 50 Foot Woman stopping Cliff’s out-of-control robot body was well worth the wait.
