In Review: Creature Commandos (S1 – EP6) Priyatel Skelet

Synopsis: This week in Creature Commandos, Amid Alex’s struggle to satisfy those bankrolling his research, Dr. Phosphorus is born. Meanwhile, the Creature Commandos attempt to carry out their directive – and not be killed in the process.

The Story

Picking up from last week’s episode, Rick Flag has been gravely injured at the hands of Clayface, and Frankenstein has abandoned him to pursue the Bride. Thankfully, Flag is rescued and rushed to a hospital, where Amanda Waller oversees his treatment. She’s determined to uncover whatever information he managed to learn before Clayface left him battered and broken.

Meanwhile, back in Pokolistan, the Creature Commandos have become separated and are desperately trying to avoid the authorities as they continue their mission. Dr. Phosphorous, now on his own, finds shelter in his old house from before his transformation—a time when he was still human. There, he reflects on the events that led to his mutation, recalling how a crime boss, who had funded his cancer research, applied relentless pressure on him, ultimately leading to his downfall.

Elsewhere, Weasel befriends a small pack of wolves and takes refuge among them, while the Bride and Nina Mazursky find shelter in a brothel.

The Acting

Alan Tudyk delivers a fantastic performance as Dr. Phosphorous, revealing a more human side to a character who has been portrayed as fairly twisted until now. Through flashbacks, we see what Phosphorous was like before he was locked in the experimental chamber and transformed into his monstrous form. It’s also revealed that his original intentions were noble—focused on benefiting humankind—making his tragic turn all the more compelling.

Indira Varma and Zoë Chao also shine in their roles as The Bride and Nina Mazursky, who come to the aid of a brothel when a Meta-Human client violently attacks one of the sex workers for asserting her boundaries.

Overall

A fun episode that concludes with the Creature Commandos reuniting and pressing on with their mission to assassinate the Princess. This leaves us wondering whether Flag will wake up in time to warn Waller so she can tell the team to abort. I guess we’ll find out in the next two weeks.
