Synopsis: In The Secret History of the Mongols, The recovered scroll’s translation takes Danny, Lexi, Kate and Violet to the snowy tundra of Mongolia, with deadly results.
The Story
Picking up from where last week left off. Danny, Lexi, and Kate have been given an ancient scroll when combined with the final chapter of a book called The Secret History of the Mongols could lead them to the Spirit Banner. As they are about to piece the clues together with some help from a Linguist friend of Danny’s. Violet turns up, which proves to be a big surprise given that Danny and Lexi thought she had died. Of course, we know from last week’s show that Violet is The Great Khan and has been manipulating events all along.
However, with Violet back on the team. The group travels to the snowy tundra of Mongolia to search for the ancient tomb of Ghengis Khan’s brother Temüge. However, when Kate does a little digging she winds up dead by Violet’s hand, which leads to Danny being somewhat suspicious of Violet as they edge closer to finding the banner. The question is. Who will strike first? Danny or Violet?
The Acting
Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas put in a fairly strong performance this week as we see Danny and Lexi’s relationship put under pressure with the arrival of Violet (Michelle Lee) who rather cunningly tries to leverage her prior friendship with Lexi in her bid to outmaneuver Danny. We also get a great performance from James Callis who is as weasely as ever in the role of Simon Hardwick who gets to quote the famous Paul Freeman line from Raiders of the Lost Ark when the Spirit Banner is found.
Overall
This was a really strong episode with plenty of plot twists, betrayal, and a good old-fashioned shoot-out at the end. With Lexi and Violet in the wind with the Spirit Banner and Danny seemingly on his own. It’s anyone’s guess how Danny will be able to reconnect with Lexi and stop Violet’s plans of engineering a super virus to wipe out half the world except for Asia and Russia. But it will be fun finding out.
