Synopsis: She’s a witch. He’s a private detective. And when they get together, it’s magic…
Review: Once again, Big Finish proves to be the best platform for the continuation of Dark Shadows. The characters and stories are given the depth and layers that the original soap format didn’t always allow. In Dark Shadows: The Tony and Cassandra Mysteries Series 03, our favorite duo explore familial bonds and come to grips with their own unconventional relationship.
In “The Mystery of the Grandest Order” by Aaron Lamont, Alice goes into labor as a mysterious hitman goes in in for the kill. What follows is a dark, poignant, funny tale about collateral damage, redemption, and becoming responsible godparents.
“The Mystery of the Fisherman’s Wife” by Jessica Smith is an exploration of ancient folklore, domestic abuse, and the knife’s edge of morality. Eva Pope gives a raw performance as a woman facing a bleak future.
“The Mystery of a Mother’s Love” by William Proudler is a story of profound grief and self-medication. Tony, Cassandra, and Alice face what parenthood means and reach a crossroads. Sydney Aldridge is pitch-perfect throughout.
“The Mystery of the Jack-in-the-Box” by Zara Symes ties up the loose ends in surprising but ultimately logical ways. In the process, Tony and Cassandra save lives, lose lives, and confront their pasts head-on.
Lara Parker and Jerry Lacy are superb as ever. I can’t wait to hear the next scripts that Big Finish gifts them with.
