In Review: Arrow – Crossing Lines

Diggle asks Curtis to go undercover for ARGUS.

Synopsis: Still, in prison, Oliver faces his biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, Felicity gets an intriguing offer, and Diggle asks Curtis to go undercover for ARGUS.

Review: Crossing Lines proves to be a really solid title for this episode because pretty much every player is having to break or bend some rules in order to get stuff done.

The Story

As ever the story is broke up into several key parts with Felicity doing her thing, Oliver doing his and Diggle, Layla and Curtis doing some work in Zurich for ARGUS.

Still in prison. Oliver is still trying to find the prisoner known as The Demon and has had to ally himself with Danny ‘Brick’ Brickwell in order to do so, but he finds out that Brick has been manipulating him all along, which means that Oliver will have to cross some lines in order to get to the Demon. This is problematic given that The Demon is on Level Two of the prison where they keep “The worse of the worst.”

Elsewhere, Diggle, Layla, and Curtis take a trip to Zurich on some business for ARGUS, but this sees Layla crossing some lines, which results in marital difficulties between her and husband Diggle.

Felicity enlists the aid of Rene and FBI Agent Walker in an attempt to capture Diaz and trap him and his associates in the CDC lab. Things do not go to plan as we’d expect this early on in the series, but it does result in them capturing one of The Longbow hunters, a capture, which is kept secret from Walker who risked her career to help.

The Acting

Vinnie Jones puts in another fun and villainous performance as Brick.

But the gong this week goes to Sydelle Noel who got to show us a slightly different side to Agent Watson, who up until this was a strictly by the book enforcer of FBI rules and protocols. The scenes she shared with Felicity were pretty solid, but all the more so given the betrayal of trust, which we see toward the close of the story.

This was a fairly solid outing for ‘Arrow’ and presents us with a new plot thread with the secret ARGUS stuff that Layla is involved with. The question is. How will this make up the bigger picture?

We also see a fairly brutal fight in the episode when Oliver takes on another prisoner as part of an organized prison fight, which Brick tricks him into taking.

The finale moment sees Felicity and Rene paying a visit to their prisoner. The Longbow Hunter known as ‘The Silencer’, who we saw incapacitate Black Canary and Black Sirens screams in last week’s episode.
