The saying goes that behind every good man is a strong woman, but that saying is going to be somewhat twisted when it comes to ‘Gotham’ because behind every twisted man there is a freaky mother and actress Carol Kane seems to fit that bill rather nicely in her role as the Penguin’s mum Gertrude Kapelput.
As you can see by the picture above the actress really looks the part.
‘Gotham’s’ Gertrude Kapelput is described as “a proud and faded beauty; an old European character with delusions of grandeur.” I think she looks a little like Miss Havisham from ‘Great Expectations’ or maybe a batty version of Downton Abbey‘s Dowager Countess.
Kane guest stars in the second episode of the new Fox drama series, which launches Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
