Although Star Wars: The Last Jedi won’t be released until December 2017, there’s already an incredible amount of hype and rumours about the sci-fi epic.

And whilst the teaser trailer has got most of us very excited about the movie, it’s the details about how the film could include a casino planet that has led to a certain amount of confusion.

Apparently Canto Bight will be a planet for the wealthy citizens of the Star Wars universe who’ll be more preoccupied with the casino gaming delights than the battles between the Empire and the Rebellion.

This represents a pretty significant shift for the Star Wars franchise that’s always kept its plotlines pretty tightly wrapped around the everlasting battles between good and evil.

Whilst Lando Calrissian’s Cloud Planet gave us a quick glimpse into how some people in Star Wars function whilst not grappling with light sabres, it seems as though Canto Bight is going to show us how the wealthy in the Star Wars galaxy spend their time.

A recently released behind-the-scenes featurette showed us how this casino planet is basically going to be a James Bond-esque playground for the mega-rich to spend their money in the most tasteless way possible.

It’s still not certain exactly how this will fit in with the plotlines that were left wide open at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

But it’s clear that many Star Wars fans will be getting ready for the new movie by researching old movies from the franchise and even learning about some of the roulette games that have been handily summarised at the Lucky Nugget Casino blog so that they can keep up with the action on Canto Bight.

Obviously some Star Wars fans are willing to go a little extra further in their appreciation of the movie franchise, and they will be delighted about how the writers are expanding the universe to deliver plenty of gaudy cosplay options.

However, there will also be those Star Wars fans who will be a little sceptical about how the movie franchise is going to embrace something as fun-loving as casino culture. Certainly the introduction of the Jar Jar Binks character had disastrous consequences in earlier movies, and so the pressure will be on to make sure that Canto Bight’s casino options are just as enthralling as their online counterparts.
