Although Disney have abandoned plans for a third movie in the ‘Tron’ franchise. They still intend to try and make money out of the property by other means.
To this end the company is looking to produce a new video game based on the much loved movies.
Described by Disney Mobile senior vp and general manager Chris Heatherly as “a new direction” for Disney Interactive, Tron Run/r — created in collaboration with Sanzaru Games — allows players the chance to run, ride and light-disc their way through 32 levels of a redesigned virtual world that takes its cues from both 1982 original ‘Tron’ and 2010 follow-up ‘Tron: Legacy.’
The game has been available on Steam Early Access since December. Steal Early Access allows subscribers to test games currently in development. The game officially released for Steam and Playstation 4 users on Tuesday and an X-BOX version of the game will follow at an as yet TBC date.
In a statement, Heatherly wrote, “I want to thank the fans who supported us in Early Access because without you, ‘Tron Run/r’ would not be releasing wide today,” adding that this game’s success will help Disney Interactive “plant more ‘seeds’ like this in the future.”
The release of this game pretty much shows that Disney have not completely given up on ‘Tron’ yet, which can only be a good thing for the fans like myself that have gotten a great deal of enjoyment from the films and the short lived animated television show.
