Season 2 of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ is Heading to your TV screens fast. Executive Producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen talks about what to expect, a description of Episode 2 has been released, and a first glimpse of Hayley Atwell in Episode 1 has been released.

In a new interview, AoS Executive Producers and showrunners, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, gave some insight into what to expect in Season 2.

“We’re very excited to have the beloved character, Mockingbird, on the show,” said Tancharoen. “Adrianne Palicki was a perfect fit for the role. She was someone we pictured from the beginning. It’s thrilling to have a nice, sort of skilled, sexy spy in the mix. And I think with the handful of characters that we have added to the show, it’s just to illustrate what the new S.H.I.E.L.D. may look like. Coulson is operating with limited resources, so he has to bring people into the fold.”

“We used to be a ragtag group in a huge machine that was churning,” Whedon added. “Then, they were agents who had support. Now, that we have less, we sort of see all of them. So while our cast is getting bigger, it’s actually because S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting smaller, we’re using every resource we can.”

A brief description of the second episode of the season, “Heavy is the Head,” states “Hunted and running out of solutions, Coulson puts his team right in the line of fire in the hopes of saving them all. But with General Talbot, Hydra and Creel all on the attack, can they possibly survive? Meanwhile, a mysterious Doctor (Kyle MacLachlan) harbors some dangerous secrets that could destroy one of our core team members.”

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons and Nick Blood as Lance Hunter.

Finally, we have some insight as to how Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) will show up in AoS.

In the 1940‘s, Carter was an integral member of Strategic Scientific Reserve, the predecessor of S.H.I.E.L.D. Her path was similar to that of Director Phil Coulson, who must now rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. from the ground up after Hydra tore S.H.I.E.L.D. apart.
“Coulson is a big student of history and wants to return to those old ideals of Agent Carter’s time,” says Jed Whedon. “He’s, like, ‘Let’s be the S.H.I.E.L.D. we were meant to be!’ He wants to do the job right this time.”

Atwell, who will star in the 2015 series ‘Marvel’s Agent Carter,’ is joined in the flashback by Kenneth Choi and Neal McDonough, reprising their ‘Captain America’ characters Jim Morita and Dum Dum Dugan.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on ABC.
