Review: In this third episode of the second series. Alan is given command of his first mission, which is to save a pair of scientist film makers from freezing to death on Jupiter’s ice moon Europa.
The mission requires deep space travel followed by an adapted version of Thunderbird 5, which has been modified for the harsh conditions.
There are some fun moments in this episode in which Alan is bored silly by Gordon playing 12 seasons of the documentary series while travelling in deep space.
The actual film makers seem to be based somewhat on the late Steve Irwin. In that the main guy had a very strong Australian accent that put me instantly in mind of Irwin and his style of presentation.
The CGI effects of Thunderbird 5 going through ice was really a thrill to watch. As was the actual rescue, which required a fair bit of manual dexterity on the part of Alan who had to manually dock TB5 with the life pod that the film makers were using.
The alien life form that Alan finds put me in mind a little of the space creature that the crew of the Enterprise D discovered in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’s’ pilot episode ‘Encounter At Farpoint’.
I really enjoyed this episode and given that I still have to catch up on the previous two episodes. I’m really thrilled to have ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ back on the air again.
