Tom Baker & Katee Sackhoff joining Rebels 3rd season

Geeks and fans galaxy wide celebrate both Tom Baker and Katee Sackhoff joining the rebellionn against the Empire.

When news broke that Doctor Who star Tom Baker would be joining the third season of Star Wars Rebels, the whole of geekdom exploded with glee. Ahead of the return of the animated series set in a galaxy far, far away, a new clip featuring Baker’s Star Wars character has been unleashed.

Baker (who played the beloved Fourth Doctor between from 1974 to 1981 on the BBC series) plays the Bendu, who is described as a “large, wise and bull-like creature” that is strong with the Force but is neither a Jedi nor an evil Sith but is rather in-between. The character is said to become important to Kanan’s (Freddie Prinze Jr.) journey, Ezra’s (Taylor Gray) Jedi master and a member of the fledgling Rebel Alliance, who has been blinded by Darth Maul (Sam Witwer) during the Season 2 finale.

Here’s what Baker told USA Today about his character:

“The Bendu is described as a “life force,” which is something we haven’t really seen before in Star Wars. He’s not the dark side or the light — he’s something greater.”

The next season of Star Wars Rebels will be adding a former Battlestar Galactica hotshot pilot in Season 3.

Jedi News UK reports Katee Sackhoff, aka Starbuck, will be joining the cast of Star Wars Rebels this season. The news was reportedly announced at Australia’s Sydney Comic-Con.

She’ll be reprising her role as Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze, a gig she originated in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Bo-Katan was a great character in Clone Wars, and it’s encouraging to see her getting a comeback. If you’re not watching Rebels, it’s getting pretty good. Plus, it’s always nice to see (or hear) Sackhoff. No word on exactly how she’ll fit into the narrative of Season 3, but it’s apparently just a guest spot, and her role has already been recorded.

If you’re not well-versed on Clone Wars, Bo-Katan is a female human Mandalorian warrior. She worked with the Death Watch faction, and eventually allied with Obi-Wan Kenobi to oppose Darth Maul when he became the ruler of Mandalore. As for Rebels era? Who knows where she’s at these days

Star Wars Rebels returns to Disney XD on Sept. 24.
