BURBANK, CA, June 4, 2026 – TheaterEars today announced that The Director’s Experience is coming to Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu beginning June 5, giving audiences the opportunity to hear director, co-writer, and producer Jon Favreau’s commentary synchronized precisely with the film as it plays on the big screen.
The feature will be available free through the TheaterEars app in participating theaters, with no premium ticket required.
Favreau is uniquely suited to this format. As the creator of The Mandalorian, he introduced Grogu to audiences and helped build the world that now makes its way to theaters. His career also includes directing and producing major projects such as Iron Man, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Chef.
The Director’s Experience allows moviegoers to hear Favreau’s insights, creative decisions, and behind-the-scenes stories in real time while watching the film.
“Star Wars fans are some of the most detail-obsessed audiences in the world, and Favreau is the rare filmmaker who can satisfy that curiosity,” said Dan Mangru, CEO of TheaterEars. “Hearing him explain a scene while you’re watching it, in the theater, in the moment, is a reason to go, and a reason to go again.”
Favreau added:
“Star Wars has always been about the experience of sitting in a theater and being transported. Getting to talk fans through these moments while they’re living them, what we were going for, what’s hiding in the frame, is something you just couldn’t do before. I’m thrilled to share it this way.”
TheaterEars first introduced synchronized theatrical director commentary with Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The format proved successful in encouraging repeat viewings and helping maintain audience interest beyond opening weekend.

Using the service is simple:
