Prime Video returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, treating fans to the first teaser trailer for Season 3 and offering fresh details about what lies ahead for Middle-earth.
Joining the panel were cast members Charlie Vickers, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniel Weyman, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Owain Arthur, alongside showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.
The biggest reveal was confirmation that Season 3 will finally bring one of the defining moments in Tolkien’s mythology to the screen, the forging of the One Ring. Speaking during the panel, Payne described the sequence as unlike anything the series has attempted before, revealing that Sauron’s creation of the Ring will play out in an extended sequence deep within the fires of Mount Doom.
The new teaser also confirmed that the story jumps forward several years following the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s influence has spread across Middle-earth, his armies continue to grow, and the remaining free peoples are preparing for all-out war. As expected, Barad-dûr takes centre stage as the Dark Lord’s power continues to rise.
Fans were also introduced to several new characters joining the series. Jamie Campbell Bower will portray Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lmissing husband, while Simon Pegg has been cast as the voice of the Balrog. Other additions include Eddie Marsan as Thrain, Andrew Richardson as Anárion, Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling and Adam Young as the Orc Marnûkh.
During the discussion, Charlie Vickers hinted that audiences will see a very different side of Sauron this season as he struggles to master the power needed to create the One Ring. The showrunners also teased the arrival of the Nazgnagôl, the early servants of Sauron who will eventually become the feared Nazgûl.
The panel made it clear that Season 3 is taking the series into much darker territory, with the War of the Elves and Sauron now fully underway and some of Tolkien’s most iconic events finally beginning to unfold.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns to Prime Video on 11 November 2026.
