After Realm

Synopsis: This month in After Realm. Oona encounters the dead god, Odin! With his body and mind taken over by maggot-like beings, Oona must escape from its wrath as she fights her way through his larva children.

The Story

With the first two issues of After Realm having focused on Oona Lightfoot’s origins, this issue furthers her adventures. Having successfully helped a tribe of humans fend off a troll attack. Oona is given information about a dead god known as Wodan. Along with her Goat Pooka who is following in secret. Oona sets out to find Woden.

The Artwork

I am really enjoying this book and the artwork and style that Michael Avon Oeming is bringing to it. The artwork has a similar look to it than video games. Particularly fantasy-style games such as Zelda. Indeed Oeming takes much inspiration from numerous sources for this book, which includes a mix of Norse and Greek Mythology. I loved the sequence of images used for the additional story about Kronos. Particularly the sequence that depicts Kronos eating his children.

After Realm continues to be a fantastic comic, which has a wonderful story to tell with some brilliant use of mythology from various cultures. Furthermore, I am loving the various new twists that Oeming is putting on things. In particular, the twist with regards to Woden and how he comes into being is a wonderful moment.

I also enjoyed how one of the humans that Oona saved goes to the Trolls and essentially betrays her. I look forward to seeing how that will play out. Moreover, I’m looking forward to seeing more Trolls on Motorcycles, which is something we get teased within the final few pages of the book.

Overall. This is a fantastic book and the bonus story about Kronos and the art gallery at the back of the book adds lots of extra value.

You can purchase your own copy of this book digitally at Colixology where you can also get the back issues of issues one and two.
