Star Trek guest star William Schallert passes away

The veteran actor and president of the Screen Actors Guild guest starred in both the Original Series and Deep Space Nine.

William Schallert was a well known veteran film and television actor who worked on more than 400 film and tv roles over the course of fifty plus years in Hollywood. He was the president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1979 to 1981.

The actor is best known to fans of Star Trek for both of his guest starring roles in the Original Series episode, ‘The Trouble with Tribbles‘ and Deep Space Nine episode, ‘Sanctuary‘. However, Schallert was also well known for having played Patty Duke’s father on The Patty Duke Show along with so many other memorable roles in tv and film such as The Dick Van Dyke Show, Get Smart, In the Heat of the Night, The Six Million Dollar Man, Quantum Leap, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother and many more.

Schallert‘s wife of 67 years, Rosemarie, sadly passed away in 2015 and coincidentally his on-screen daughter Patty Duke recently passed away as well. William Schallert and his wife are survived by their four sons, Edwin, Joseph, Mark and Brendan, along with seven beautiful grandchildren.
