With respect to Star Trek 3, we all know that Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious 6) will be in the director’s seat and it is likewise known throughout the galaxy that Simon Pegg has also been hired to help write the upcoming third installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise.
We can also be relatively certain that this latest Trek film will begin shooting in April of 2015 at the Vancouver Film Studios, with some on location work potentially being done in South Korea as well.
What the fans have not yet heard however, centers around the potential idea to introduce three new female characters into the movie, which are it would seem the Captain of another Starfleet vessel, the President of the Federation of Planets as well as Doctor McCoy’s ex-wife.
By the same token, news of a new villain for the third Trek film which is scheduled to open in U.S, theaters on July 8th, 2016 has surfaced, which indicates that the studio is looking for an actor in the Bryan Cranston-like vein. It also seems that Cranston himself has apparently spoken to the Trek films producers about his part in the upcoming Trek film, but no specifics have as of yet been given.
So while Trek fans have no idea as of yet what kind of alien species this new villain might hail from, or what original Trek episode might be the catalyst for the next bad guy, one thing might be clear; we potentially know the kind of Breaking Bad-like arch-type the producers and writers of the next Trek film may have in mind. A meek, mild mannered everyday man who finds within himself the capacity to create and or be the mastermind behind a great awakening evil that will threaten the Federation of Planets, but only time will tell.
