Sgt. Fury #1 & the Art of Comic Collecting

I finally purchased a copy of Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes #1 'WA-HOO'

Any comic collector will tell you that there are certain books that are among the very special objects of their individual and collected desires. For me one of these books is Marvel Comic’s, Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes #1.

Created by the dynamic duo of Stan Lee and Jack ‘King’ Kirby, this comic is from the very early days of Marvel Comics and is in essence the very first appearance of Sgt. Fury or Nick Fury, the original Director of SHIELD as he would later become know.

This book is also the first appearance of the rest of the Howling Commandoes, with special attention to Dum Dum Dugan and Gabriel Jones, who would stay Fury’s loyal supporting cast members throughout his World War II adventures, as well as all of those SHIELD adventures, that in some ways still continue to today.

This comic is one of those books known as a milestone book, which also happens to be a first issue and first appearance of beloved Marvel characters, which I have personally been after for years and years.

Now thanks to a successful E-BAY bidding war, I was able to win this comic bid in my usual last five seconds of the auction bidding, which is a strategy that has worked for me on many a comic.  Now yes the book is in less than GOOD condition, but I was not looking to spend over $1,500.00 or more on a very nice quality book, but rather I spent a little over $100.00 on  a copy that is still an original first appearance-part of Marvel history, that I severely am enjoying reading and looking at.
