On September 26-28, 2014, Tampa Florida will be home to what is sure to be an amazing fan and family friendly Science Fiction Convention known as Sci-Con Tampa, which will held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.
Sci-Con is a Fan Run convention put together by experienced Con-goers and fans, for the benefit of those fans who will be attending the much anticipated convention weekend. Sci-Con is the kind of convention the whole family can enjoy, which will feature tons of fun and offerings such as a dealers room, game room, movie room and panels on cosplay, film making, podcasting, writing, theater acting, sci-fi trivia and more.
Sci-Con will also feature an amazingly fun variety of large props and models which will be on display including a custom built Cylon Raider (created by one of the convention organizers, Eugene Haggerty) along with an Imperious Leader Throne, TARDIS, Dalek and R2 Droids. Sci-Con has also have a dedicated area with kid-friendly activities for young fans and padawans of all ages.
Like all conventions, Sci-Con will also bring together science fiction celebrities from the classic and re-imagined iconic Sci-fi television series ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ such as Richard Hatch, Jack Stauffer and Nicki Clyne. As a fan of both the original and re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, it doesn’t get any better than being able to meet, interact and talk with the iconic actor who played both Captain Apollo and Tom Zarrick, Richard Hatch. Richard is very approachable, a sweet man who loves the fans and also quite an accomplished and Golden Globe nominated actor, who will also be conducting a special two-hour breakout acting workshop, along the lines of those acting and motivational workshops which Richard has hosted globally.
As if having Richard Hatch at Sci-Con Tampa was not enough, other celebrities joining them for the weekends festivities are Aron Eisenberg, best known for his role as Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space 9; Lolita Fatjo, a convention circuit favorite and Script Coordinator on multiple Star Trek series and movies; and other guests, including former NASA Astronaut Story Musgrave, who performed the first shuttle spacewalk on Challenger’s first flight.
Celebrity autograph signings and opportunities to have photos taken with your favorite celebrity guests will be scheduled and available throughout the weekend. As if the celebrities who will attend Sci-Con Tampa were not exciting enough, there will be many co-splayers and several fan groups walking around throughout the weekend to truly make your multi-genre convention experience one not soon to be forgotten.
Sci-Con Tampa will kick off with opening ceremonies on Friday evening, followed by a VIP toast with the convention’s celebrity guests as well as a Friday night Karaoke party for all attendees. On Saturday evening, the convention will host an exciting costume contest for all adults and children dressed to impress or ready to fight evil in the form of a Super Villain or Intergalactic mad Emperor. The costume contest will also be followed by a Masquerade Ball, complete with an awesome DJ and plenty of dancing to round off the night.
