Research conducted by gaming magazine 1337 Games used Social Blade to analyze the follower count of Robert Downey Jr., who was announced as the new Doctor Doom in the upcoming Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday at Comic Con last weekend. Using influencer marketing calculators, they determined how much Downey Jr. could earn from a single sponsored social media post.

Downey Jr. is well known for portraying Iron Man in several Marvel movies between 2008 and 2019, before his character was eventually killed off in Avengers: End Game. He most recently starred in Oppenheimer and received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Lewis Strauss.

At the San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, Marvel announced that Downey Jr would return as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in 2026. Dr Victor Von Doom is a popular villain in the Marvel Comic Books.

The actor was found to have gained 1,179,902 followers in the two days since the announcement was made on July 27th, bringing his Instagram follower count to 57.5 million. While the actor is already one of the highest-earning actors in Hollywood, this impressive number means he could earn up to $181,178 for a single sponsored Instagram post.

Further analysis using Google Trends reveals that search interest for Downey Jr. spiked by 4,900% in the last 30 days.

A spokesperson for 1337 Games commented on the findings:

“Downey Jr.’s popularity is without question, but fans have had mixed reactions about his return to Marvel after five years, this time cast as a supervillain. However, fans will have to wait until 2026 to decide whether Marvel made the right call on this casting decision.”

I wonder whether Noah Hawley will direct Avengers: Doomsday? As he was originally the planned Doctor Doom film’s director.

    Dom,

I just did a quick look for you and the answer appears to be no. It looks like
Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are on the job. This makes sense given that they seem to have directed some of the better performing Marvel films.
